| Introduction | potassium formate is a colorless transparent liquid or white solid, highly moisture-absorbing, reductive, capable of reacting with strong oxidants, density of 1.9100g/cm3, soluble in water, saturated solution of specific gravity of 1.58g/cm3, non-toxic corrosion. Potassium formate can be synthesized by heating carbon monoxide with potassium hydroxide, and formic acid is obtained by further acidification and distillation. Figure 1 shows the molecular structure of potassium formate. |

Barite can be dissolved in potassium formate solution, but this is related to the concentration of potassium formate solution, therefore, the addition amount of potassium formate should be controlled on site, and considering comprehensively, it is recommended that the addition amount should be about 30%. The scheme of adding formate in the system PDF-THERM is feasible, and it was confirmed in the high temperature and high pressure wells in the South China Sea, the properties of drilling fluid are stable, and the rheological properties are easy to control, which meet the needs of drilling fluid operation. |
